Privacy
Short version: no tracking, no analytics, no cookies. We process what is needed to run an audit and to bill paid clues.
This website and the API
- Page URLs you submit are fetched once to run the audit, together with that site's robots.txt and llms.txt for the AI policy check. For paid clues, the URL is stored with your API key and the price in our usage log, so we can bill and you can see your usage.
- Your IP address is used for rate limiting the free audit and appears in short-lived request logs of our hosting provider.
- API keys are stored only as a hash.
- Usage log: for each paid clue we store the product, the price, the page URL, the time and which API key was used. We keep these entries for as long as your API key exists and for the retention periods required for billing and tax records; after that they are deleted.
- We do not store the content of the pages we audit.
The GEO Page Audit browser extension
This section covers the extension for Chrome and Firefox (desktop 140+, Android 142+).
- The page audit runs entirely in your browser, on the page you choose to audit. Nothing is sent.
- Only when you click Call the detective, the extension sends three things to datadetective.app: the page URL, the length of its visible text (a number, not the text) and your API key. Nothing is sent in the background, and no other pages or browsing history are read.
- In Firefox, this transfer is declared as the optional data category “browsing activity”. Firefox asks for your consent on the first click; if you decline, nothing is sent.
- Your API key is stored locally and unencrypted in the extension's storage on your device. It is only sent to datadetective.app and can be removed at any time with “Forget API key” or by removing the extension.
- What happens on our side with a Bot-View request is described above: the URL is fetched, the call is logged in the usage log, the page content is not stored.
- The extension contains no analytics, no tracking and no advertising, and its data is not sold or shared with third parties.
Hosting
